Why do you think its important to monitor growth during the Active Start, FUNdamentals and Learn to Train stages? Do you have any effective tools that you use to keep track (i.e. excel spreadsheets that include growth velocity etc)?

Kids at these stages are seen/coached by many people so who would take the responsibility to monitor growth? how would it be used? who would it be passed on to?

I think that everyone should take responsibility. I would think that coaches would lead it, but the data would probably have to be kept by the parents. The child's basketball coach may teach the parents how to measure properly, then the basketball coach can do 1 measurement during the basketball season, and the parents can do two more measurements at home at different times throughout the year. Then you're getting 3 data points per year. Or, if the child is in a number of sports and all the coaches are on board with tracking growth the parent can keep all the data and share it with each other coaches, who do measurements at different points throughout the year.

We have to work together, everyone has a role to play.

Is there a simple test that can evaluate physical literacy? This would be an important tool for programs that want to develop physical literacy in kids.

That's a really good question. We're actually working with Dr. Dean Kriellaars from the University of Manitoba on some of the research he has done and produced - which includes some simple ways to evaluate physical literacy. Keep your eyes open on the CS4L website, the info should be up in the next few months!

Really looking forward to that set of guidelines.
